Head of Supreme National Defense University: International Law is Both an Element of Power and a Potential Threat
According to the Center for Communications and International Relations of the Supreme National Defense University, the conference "Legal Dimensions of the 12-Day War by the Zionist Regime and the United States of America against the Islamic Republic of Iran" was held on January 6th. Attendees included Dr. Rahami, Vice President for Research, Education, and Citizenship Rights; Dr. Nasrollah Ebrahimi, a legal scholar and faculty member of the University of Tehran; and a group of professors and researchers at the Faculty of Strategic Management of the Supreme National Defense University.
The conference also featured the unveiling of a collection of research works by the Vice Presidency for Research, Education, and Citizenship Rights in this field. Brigadier General Dr. Esmail Ahmadi-Moghaddam, Head of the Supreme National Defense University, highlighted the pivotal role of international law on the global stage, stating: "Following the rise of globalization, contemporary coalitions, conventions, communications, and even threats and economic blockades are orchestrated through the mechanisms of legal systems. A robust legal and judicial framework is a fundamental prerequisite of power for any country that intends to play a transnational role."
He added: "Any country that expands its influence in the international arena and enters into economic and political competitions will inevitably face confrontations that underscore the necessity for a more profound understanding of international law."
Referring to Iran's strategic shift from post-war isolationism to active regional engagement, he noted: "Power is not measured solely by economic indicators; political, cultural, military, and legal components are equally influential. Today, the presence of students from over 100 countries in Iran's universities is itself indicative of the nation's cultural influence and its legal and international standing."
Brigadier General Ahmadi-Moghaddam emphasized Iran's sensitive geopolitical position and its susceptibility to developments in the six surrounding strategic regions, stating: "The intervention of foreign powers in the Persian Gulf region has been a key factor in intensifying regional disputes. Concurrently, Iran, endowed with rich resources, a highly skilled workforce, and advanced scientific capital, must establish an effective chain of productivity in the field of international law to solidify its rightful position on the global stage."
In conclusion, he affirmed: "The domain of international law is not only a component of power but can also constitute a threat; therefore, its strategic and intelligent utilization is an imperative for the Islamic Republic of Iran."
At the end of the conference, families of the revered martyrs and exemplary professors were honored with commemorative plaques presented by Brigadier General Ahmadi-Moghaddam.
