MEDICAL RESEARCH IS NOT MERELY ABOUT PUBLISHING ARTICLES; ITS PURPOSE IS TO PRODUCE OUTCOMES THAT HAVE A TANGIBLE IMPACT ON THE HEALTH AND WELLBEING OF SOCIETY
According to the Center for Communications and International Relations of the Supreme National Defense University, Dr. Shahin AkhoundZadeh, Deputy of Research and Technology at the Ministry of Health and Medical Education, addressed a national medical excellence event organized by the Center for Elite Talents of the Armed Forces in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Medical Education at the University of Health Sciences and Rehabilitation. Highlighting the role of the country’s elites in healthcare, he stated that medical research is not merely about publishing articles; it must produce tangible outcomes that impact the health and wellbeing of society. Such outputs from the research of elites and university professors may include a treatment protocol, a medication, or any innovation that increases hope for life and health in the country.
A fourth-generation university must ensure that its benefits reach society. In the field of medical research, such impact should include economic gains, foreign exchange savings, improvements in quality of life, and environmental benefits. Referring to examples of successful medical and paramedical research in the country, he added that the Ministry of Health continuously monitors research outputs and their effectiveness, following up until the research reaches practical implementation and achieves tangible impact.
In another part of his speech, he addressed the medical conscript elites—those serving their military duty in the field of medicine—referring to the sacred duty of medicine, saying that “ I have also gone through this period; military service is a part of life, and in the future you will see that during this phase of your life you have gained insights that were very useful and valuable”.
At the conclusion of the event, 12 outstanding medical elites were formally recognized and honored for their achievements.
